Five for Friday

Aloha, fellow teacher friends!

It sure has been awhile..but I'm here to share with you what I've been up to this past week.

Today I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for:

This week we went on field trip to the Living Art Marine Center. The kids got to touch the invertebrate sea creatures, and even do their very own Gyotaku printings!

We've been hard at work learning about the Elements of Art. This week we learned about lines and shapes. We created the beautiful piece of artwork pictured above using various types of lines and went around the school hunting for geometric and organic shapes.

All of the activities we did this week can be found in this resource!

We've been working on determining the author or main character's point of view and providing text evidence to support our answers.

These task cards from Adventures of Mrs. Smith have been such a huge help for us to practice this skill! {Click on the photo below if you'd like to check it out on TPT}

We've also begun to work on data analysis this week ...

This past week, we have been having some CRAZY traffic on Oahu due to the zip mobile being broken. Being that we live on an island, there aren't any replacement parts nor did anywhere on the island carry these said parts. SO 2 lanes on the free way going West bound (which is where all the heavy afternoon traffic is) were closed causing a normal 1 hour commute in traffic to be anywhere from 3-6 hours!!!

The hubby and I unfortunately live on the West side..so we took advantage and headed into town (opposite direction) and went in search of a happy hour. Lucky thing, we rolled up to a restaurant where my brother was starting a beer tasting (for a new restaurant he is opening) so we got in on it!!
We got to sample all of these delicious craft beers. My favorite was the Belching Beaver Milk Stout (tastes exactly like coffee!)

Happy Easter! I hope you enjoy this weekend with loved ones!!

Five for Friday {Saturday Edition}

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!! I sure am happy it's Saturday..this was an exhausting, yet busy week!
Today I'm linking up with Doodlebugs Teaching for her Five for Friday!

We've been hard at work researching and taking notes for our big Endangered Species Research Project. The kids are SO Excited and get so upset as they are learning more about why these animals are critically endangered.

If you're interested, you can find these note taking pages along with the booklet we plan to use to present our final project with in my TpT Store.

We've also been working on linear measurements this week. Third graders are required to be able to measure object to the nearest one-fourth inch.

We've been practicing a lot with worksheets and measuring things in the classroom….

BUT what better way to practice measurements than getting outside and having some fun?!

I invited some 6th graders to come in and teach my class how to make paper airplanes. The kids were so excited and it was also a great way for them to practice their listening skills!

We then headed out to fly our planes and measure the distance that it traveled!

If you'd like to try these activities out with your students, you can click on the image below :)
Be sure to follow me on Instagram or Facebook for more fun updates ;)
Also got to take some time out for some fun this week! We got to meet up with some friends from Washington. They're visiting Hawaii so we met them for some Happy Hour :)  She is a second grade teacher…our classes were pen pals last year!

We're also continuing to work on poetry and figurative language. This is always a tough one but fun at the same time. So far, we've covered simile and metaphors, alliteration, idioms, and onomatopoeias.

I'm kicking myself right now because as I'm scrolling through my photos I realized I only took pictures of our alliteration pages!

Landan the Lizard lights a leaf
Marry the monkey makes a monster with a magical science kit

Emmeline the elephant loves to eat eggplants everyday.
Ayven the alligator loves to eat apples any day he sees one.
Jayde the jaguar got a job at the jungle's Jamba Juice.
Pretty Pam made chicken pot pie with pickles and peas.

We're also did a science experiment today. The kids were so excited learning about the scientific method.

Thats my week in a nutshell! Hope you enjoy your weekend :) I'm off to finish some work I had started throughout the week…and hopefully get a new Facebook Fan Freebie posted for you all sometime this weekend ;)

Cause and Effect Angry Birds Style!!

So this will be a quick post since I'm extremely tired. I feel as if I have short-term memory loss because I have so many things to do, I can't keep track (I can't even remember items I quickly thought to myself to add to my list!). Anyways..I'm doing cause and effect this week with my kids and saw this really cute anchor chart on pinterest.

Since I'm not the best artist, I asked my good friend who is subbing as our upper grade counselor (who is on maternity). She gladly agreed to make this beautiful angry birds inspired cause and effect anchor chart! I decided to modify the key words a bit from the pinterest one but if I have to say so myself I think it came out even better than the original (and I didn't think that was even possible!)..She's that good!!
This chart got the kids SO EXCITED, since they ALL play angry birds on their iPads or iPhones (so spoiled these days!). It got some really great conversations and examples going just from the picture itself!

Hope you have a happy Friday!!
